Bratislava, December 8, 2009
From January until July we have done around 70 hours of entertainment. Children had a happy afternoon with the shows of magicians, pantomime, puppet play, music, painting etc. During the summer months we continued to visit the oncology departments. The children with cancer stay hospitalized for long periods of time, sometimes for months in a row. Mothers asked us to continue with entertainment during the holiday time. The artists went on a regular basis, around 3 times a week, to do artistic work with the children and bring some distraction (21 hours)...

In January, the Smiling Hospitals Fund started in Slovakia with the artistic entertainment program for hospitalised children. So far, we have organised 44 performances on different departments of the Detska Nemocnica Kramare.
A group of professional magicians joined our organization. One of them visits every week two departments and makes it an enjoyable afternoon for them. The oncology department got an exotic atmosphere when an African drummer came to make music with the children. A very expressive pantomime actor joined us and he is happy to work with the children in the future. This month we will organize a large group performance and invite all children in the hospital to enjoy the pantomime show. His interaction with the children his wonderful!
Other artists such as a singer, a pianist, guitarists and puppet players started to perform with frequency. It is a pleasure to see what magic, music, acting and other artistic activities can do for the children. Very positive feedback was received from hospital staff and parents, which is most encouraging. The Smiling Hospitals Fund is expanding fast and we plan to visit more departments with a broader range of artists in the near future.
Most important is to make it a happy day for the children and to help them to feel better and recover faster. Your generosity enables us to do this for them. Thank you very much for your continued support.
